A Lust For Life – Complete at last!
Three momentous events have occurred in Mobi’s life over the past week.
The first event was the long awaited completion of my novel, ‘A Lust For Life’, which I first started writing back in late 2009, but didn’t really get into it seriously until January, 2010, when I stopped drinking.
There were also some longish breaks along the road, especially in 2010, but I think it is true to say that if I exclude these breaks, the novel has taken me around 2 years to write, including the substantial editing, which is now finished.
I’ll probably still continue to ‘tinker’ with the text over the coming months, but I feel it is ‘there or there abouts’, and will now embark on the next stage, which is to see if there is anyone out there in publisher-land, mad enough to consider publishing my weighty tome. (Yes it came in at 215,000 words, which would mean a paper back novel of some 600+ pages.)
Highly doubtful – I know – but I have to try.
In the meantime,
I have to say that over the past two years or so I have had very few comments on my novel in progress. Those that I have received have been largely positive, but I confess that all comments, of whatever nature, dried up completely, many months ago.
I am not sure if this means that very few of my readers have taken the trouble to read ‘Lust’ – which is quite possible, as I am the first to admit it’s not everyone’s cup of tea – or that you are all too polite to tell me what you really think.
Anyway folks, it’s time to get real, and I would greatly appreciate any comments you may have on my novel – good or bad – as it will help me to know if I am simply flogging a dead horse and that my energies might be better directed elsewhere.
One final word on this. When I started my massive editing exercise back in December, I realised how badly written parts of the novel were, which is why it has taken me so long to try and bring it up to par.
So if any of the ‘early’ readers were put off by my awkward and amateurish prose, then may I respectfully suggest that you give it another go, as I believe it is now a much better read.
But what do I know?
As for the other two momentous events in my life this week, well those who follow me on Twitter will be aware of one of them, and the final event is still too painful to write about.
I will try to get another blog out within the next few days, but much depends on other factors, so fingers crossed.
