I had intended to do a full blog this weekend but I’ve been struck down with the dreaded diarrhoea for the past 2 days and my energy levels are just not up to getting too heavily involved in creative activity. So I’ve decided to take a bit of a break and will resume service sometime in the New Year.
Amongst several subjects that I was planning to write about today was a follow-up piece on last week’s blog concerning American gun control laws. I may still pick this up again in the New Year but I can’t let today go by with just mentioning couple of things.
- During the week following the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, there were 56,000 applications to purchase assault rifles in the State of California alone. Why? Because they were worried that Congress may ban the sale of them.
- Also during this same week, there were 8,000 new applications for membership to the NRA, (National Rifle Association).
Sorry guys – particularly my American readers – but doesn’t this tell you everything you want to know about the Americans and their gun culture ?– to say nothing of their crass ignorance in thinking that their government would actually rush to ban sale of these terrible weapons before they had a chance to stock up.
Any ban on the sale of assault weapons – if it happens at all – will take months, if not years to be enacted, yet 56,000 nuts are so brain-washed by the irrational fear that they may lose their chance to own one, that they immediately besiege the gun stores.
Honestly, there is absolutely no hope of anything changing in a country that has the insane desire for guns stuffed so far up their collective arses that they would rather die a thousand deaths than give up their unalienable right to bear arms against their fellow citizens.
Never mind that the rest of the civilised world seems to manage pretty well without such ‘freedoms’ – not that you would think so if you believed the twisted lies and self-serving crap that the NRA put out.
Anyway, that’s enough serious stuff.
May I wish all my valued readers a wonderful festive season.
I’ll see you all again in the New Year when I crank up the Mobi–blog for yet another year of Mobi-Babble and outrageous and controversial comments on world events, as seen through the eyes of a recovering alcoholic residing in ‘Sin City’.
Next year, I am planning some changes to the format of my blog, but more of that later…..
In the meantime, Merry Christmas everyone, and don’t get too drunk…..
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
